Sept 17, 2005 - Stacy's recap of the LA Int'l Short Film Festival
The Los Angeles Short Film Festival was quite a learning experience.
It was really awesome seeing and hearing Dark Room up on the big screen. We got rave reviews from everyone who saw it. I had a great turn out of local friends; especially considering our screening was on a weekday in the afternoon. Thanks everyone for coming and supporting us! A scout from the New Port Beach festival asked if I would send them the film, which I did. Fellow filmmakers stopped me everyday thereafter to complement the film, the story, the actors and the music. (I've included some of their comments on the home page.) I could not be happier with the audience response and it was a real blast meeting other filmmakers.
Things that I learned: Film looks way better than video. Fellow filmmakers are fun and there is something good about every film. Gut wrenching stories about human suffering win awards. Submitting a rough cut won’t get your film accepted into very many festivals. (I’m glad to have the final movie to submit now.) Finally, the LA Shorts Festival judged all entries prior to the festival, not on the actual screenings, so we were judged on the rough cut - important lessons all.

is a love story wrapped in a murder. It’s story driven short film that feels, looks and sounds like a feature. Chelah Horsdal (Stargate: SG1) portrays Alice; she fully transforms from lonely schoolteacher, destined to grow old with her cat, into a vibrant woman rediscovering her artistic passion. Woody Jeffreys (The L Word) plays, the generous and nurturing Nick who helps bring Alice out of her rut. The story explores themes of love, loss, risk and what it means to really be living life to the fullest.
